Sustainability & Climate Action
Our Commitment to Climate Action
As proud participants of the Climate Action Programme, we have made a long-term commitment to reducing our environmental footprint and leading by example within the Irish hospitality industry. Every step we take is guided by a simple philosophy — protect the environment that inspires us every day.
Supporting Our Local Community
Our connection to the community runs deep. In collaboration with the local school, we recently planted a tree for every student—over 100 trees that now stand as a living symbol of growth, connection, and shared responsibility for our planet.
Nurturing Nature on the Estate
Our estate is alive with biodiversity. From the resident honeybees that produce golden honey for our breakfast tables to the livestock that contribute natural fertiliser for our grounds, every corner of Castlemartyr is part of a living, sustainable cycle.
Greener Operations
We continue to innovate behind the scenes to make our daily operations as environmentally friendly as possible:
- Light sensors throughout the back-of-house areas to conserve energy
- Fully electric induction cooking in our kitchens for cleaner, more efficient food preparation
- Composting food waste on-site, achieving less than 5% waste through a resort-wide reduction initiative
- Maintenance vehicles powered entirely by electricity
- Hybrid courtesy cars introduced to reduce fuel emissions, replacing our previous petrol and diesel fleet
- Upgraded traditional golf machinery to eco-friendly electric vehicles
Through these actions, we’re ensuring that the luxury of today never comes at the expense of tomorrow.
Guests are warmly invited to be part of our journey. Whether you choose to wander our woodland trails, sample our estate honey at breakfast, or simply take a quiet moment to listen to the birdsong across the grounds, your stay helps support a more mindful way of travelling.
We also encourage our guests to discover more about the estate’s biodiversity, from our bees and woodlands to our gently grazed pastures, and to join us in the small everyday choices that make a big difference over time. By staying with us, you become part of a shared commitment to cherish this beautiful corner of East Cork so it can be enjoyed for many years to come.
