ABOUT CORK
Cork is the biggest county in Ireland and Cork city is Ireland’s second city. Cork is part of both the Wild Atlantic Way and Ireland’s Ancient East. With over 1000 km of coastline and undulating inland greenery, Cork is known equally for its mesmerising scenery as it is for its exceptional cuisine.
In summer Cork gets plenty of daylight; you can expect up to 18 hours of brightness in the height of summer which allows you plenty of time to tour from very early morning until very late at night with average highs up to 20 degrees Celsius and average lows down around 5 degrees in the deepest winter (January and February).
CASTLEMARTYR HISTORICAL TOUR
As the name suggests, Castlemartyr is steeped in history. For avid history lovers, our concierge will beguile you with our storied past that includes Strongbow, Walter Raleigh, the Knights Templar and a Carmelite Convent before setting you off on your history tour to discover some of Ireland’s most famous sites, including Blarney Castle and Midleton Distillery, home of world-famous Jameson whiskey.
To make the most of your time at Castlemartyr Resort why not enjoy our historical tour. Explore Strongbow’s Castle dating back to 1210, tour the 18th-century Manor House with a walk of the formal gardens and a picture gallery tour of the estate.
ADVENTURE SEEKERS
For action seekers, Castlemartyr is in the heartland with a host of land and water adventures within a stone’s throw, including on-site kayaking, as well as all the attractions of Cork City just a short journey away.
FOOD LOVERS
Of course for foodies, you are in the gourmet capital of Ireland, where Ireland’s food revolution began and the home of the farm-to-fork food movement. Basking your Cork foodie experience at Castlemartyr will ensure both a satisfying beginning and ending to your food trails which should most certainly include a visit to one of the local farmer’s markets, to Ballymaloe, Ballycotton and to Kinsale to name the most obvious (our concierge will recommend our insider’s hidden gems too).
THE PERFECT LOCATION TO DISCOVER IRELAND’S MOST STUNNING COASTAL SCENERY
Castlemartyr lies right at the edge of Ireland’s Ancient East and provides the gateway to The Wild Atlantic Way, a driving scenic route which spans Ireland’s spectacular South Western Coast. Most North American guests come from the east having arrived in Dublin and taken in Waterford along their way to Castlemartyr. From their base at Castlemartyr, the village of Ballycotton, the world-famous Blarney Castle, Kinsale, The Ring of Beara and The Ring of Kerry are all-day trip options.
