My Spa Journey - ESPA Aromatherapy Massage

February 06, 2014

As I continued on my spa journey through our spa brochure at The Spa at Castlemartyr Resort I tried the ESPA Aromatherapy Massage.

As I continued on my spa journey through our spa brochure at The Spa at Castlemartyr Resort I tried the ESPA Aromatherapy Massage which is one of our most popular treatments. ESPA Aromatherapy Massage is tailored to suit an individual's needs using a blend of essential oils. Once my working day was over I made the journey up to the peaceful spa overlooking the gardens to the rear of the house. The Spa at Castlemartyr Resort is on the first floor and can only be described as a different world. Once you enter the spa, the surroundngs and atmosphere transport you to a world of pure relaxation. I decided to take some time in the water lounge to relax before the treatment and let the stresses of the day drift away. The water lounge is available to all guests having a spa treatment and should not be missed. As with all our treatments, it began with a personalised consultation with my therapist, Yvonne.

Aromatherapy oils are enjoying a renaissance of sorts as their healing properties are rediscovered. Aromatherapy oils are natural oils, extracted from plants, flowers, roots, wood, bark, or seeds, and are widely known for their healing and purifying benefits. Because of their powerful antioxidant properties, aromatherapy oils have been used for thousands of years in a variety of different applications including soaps, perfumes, aromatherapy, skincare products, as well as medicinal purposes.

Research shows that the healing value within these oils are remarkable and can be used to treat a number of different health concerns such as arthritis, sore throat and congestion, digestive issues, joint pain, muscle fatigue, stress and skin conditions - just to name a few! ESPA believe that nurturing and caring for your skin should be an aromatic daily pleasure and their collection of bath and body oils distilled with potent, pure essential oils to help energise, soothe, restore, rejuvenate and leave your skin deeply nourished, smooth and perfectly supple. Their natural formulations are also ideal for body massage, intensifying the therapeutic effect of the essential oils as well as relaxing the body and easing the mind.

Yvonne performed a sensory test to see which oil my body would choose and the restorative body oil is what I selected. This is a comforting, relaxing lavender oil blend to support spirits and soothe. Nicknamed "Hug in a Bottle", this restorative body oil acts to help balance body and mind, calm nerves and give a sense of optimism while it tones skin. Palma Rosa helps tone and firm, while sweet almond oil deeply nourishes for beautifully smooth, supple skin.

While the Aromatherapy Massage is a full body massage Yvonne also concentrated on my upper and lower back as these were areas of concern for me. The massage was deeply relaxing even though Yvonne applied a deep level of pressure and one massage I would ceratinly try again. After the massage I relaxed in the relaxation room and enjoyed my smoothie and sweet treats so I could soak up the peace and calm for a bit longer. It was difficult to prise myself from the lounger once it was time for me to go. I purchased the restorative bath oil so I could continue my spa experience at home and th following evening and added a few drops to my bath as an extra treat. The Spa at Castlemartyr Resort offer the Aromatherapy Massage for 50 or 80 minutes and have a lovely evening package running at the moment. The working nine to five package offers the 50 minute Aromatherapy Massage with a two course evening meal in Franchini's Restaurant, our new Italian restaurant for €110.00 per person. The Spa at Castlemartyr Resort can offer evening treatments with prior notice and subject to availabilty so don't delay and try this one for yourself.
