After sitting in front of a computer for most of the working week last week one of the therapist's here at The Spa at Castlemartyr Resort, Cork recommended that I try the Indian Head Massage as my treatment of the week. The head, face and neck store a great deal of anxiety that accumulates in everyday life, massaging in these areas releases stress, aches and pains, and promotes strong and healthy hair. Indian head massage, is a wonderful relaxing therapy based on the ancient ayurvedic healing system.
Indian head is the ideal stress busting treatment from anyone who is suffereing from aching shoulders, a tight neck, tension headache, eye strain, insomnia, or poor concentration. All of which I feel I can claim at this stage this week. It is a safe, simple yet effective therapy renowned for relieving symptoms of stress. When I arrived in my treatment room, Marion my therapist recommended the espa restorative oil to use for this treatment as I had mentioned on my consultation form that I wanted to feel stress free and relaxed after the treatment. Marion then conducted a sensory test of the oils to determine which aroma appealed to me the most as ESPA believe that the body will crave what it requires in this manner. True to form, I selected the restorative oil which is a comforting, relaxing lavender oil blend to support spirits and soothe. Nicknamed "Hug in a bottle", this restorative body oil acts to help balance body and mind, calm nerves and give a sense of optimism while it tones skin. Sweet orange, rose geranium and lavender help quiet anxiety, calm nerves and comfort spirits. Palma Rosa helps tone and firm, while sweet almond oil deeply nourishes for beautifully smooth, supple skin. This product can be purchased at the spa reception in a body oil or bath oil form to continue your spa journey at home.
I was suprised that the treatment took place on a heated bed rather than a chair as this is how I have previously experienced the Indian head massage and I must say that this was much more relaxing and enjoyable. Firstly Marion began with a back massage as she maintains that a lot of our tension and stress is derived from the back and then worked up into the shoulder and neck area before working on the head. It was a thoroughly relaxing experience and truly luxurious treatment.
Other benefits of the Indian Head Massage are that it acts as an antidote to anxiety and mental tension while clearing the mind and revitalising mental capacity, so improving alertness and concentration. Finally, it is generally balancing and gives a sense of calm and peace. As I sat in the relaxation room and gazed across at the gardens and woodland I took the time to ponder this treatment and while I felt relaxed, I was not tired but most certainly calm with a clear mind to face the world outside. I sat for some time looking out on the rain and imaging the cold weather outside while enjoying the peace and warmth of the spa. With the refreshing range of herbal teas and nibbles available, you could easily loose a few hours of a wet and cold November day in this tranquil space. This is a treatment I would like to try again as the next day my neck felt much more flexible and free so I must of being carrying around alot more tension in this area than I was aware of. The Spa at castlemartyr Resort is the perfect place to be this November so indulge your mind and body with The Indian Head Massage.Hotel Spa Cork
