My Spa Journey - Balinese Massage

September 25, 2013

As a new member to The Spa at Castlemartyr Resort team I have decided to work my way through our extensive brochure of treatments over the next few months to gain a greater understanding of the treatments on offer. I am sure that it will take me serveral months to complete the full brochure with one treatment a week but by Christmas I will look and feel a million dollars after my research. I have decided to chronicle this journey in a blog so you have an opportuntity to explore these treatments with me.

The first treatment I decided to indulge in is our ESPA Balinese Massage. Balinese Massage has its origin in Bali. One of the main goals of a Balinese Massage is a relaxed state of mind; to accomplish this, the therapist will knead or fold the skin to promote the flow of blood, oxygen and energy throughout the body.

This deeply soothing, relaxing and totally indulgent treatment combines hot stones with traditional flowing Balinese methods of elongated sweeping movements encompassing the whole body. The application of warm ESPA oil poured over onto the centre of the body evokes comfort and calm that envelops and relaxes mind and body.

I have decided to try this massage as I have been informed by our therapists that its different to our general perception of what a massage should be and that it is not a deep tissue massage but rather a truly relaxing massage best recommended in the evening. Since I suffer from sleep issues from time to time I felt that it would be a good option to test. Therefore after a long day at work I made my way up to The Spa and changed into one of the luxurious robes provided for all spa guests so I can truly experience what this treatment has to offer. Once I was in position in the luxurious and quiet treatment room, Sarah (my therapist), informed me of the treatment and what it would entail and how she would use long strokes to evoke a more relaxed state of mind first on the front of my body before turning me on my front to do the same on the back. At this stage I was enjoying the aroma of the ESPA essetial oils and I began to escape to another world while Sarah used long strokes that are performed in a rythmic manner combined with acupressure movements such as palm points. This massage can be enjoyed as a 50 minute treatment or 80 minutes with hot stones and I must recommend the 80 minute massage in order to do it justice and to truly enjoy the benefits of the hot stones.

I am sure that I feel asleep at some stage during this treatment as when Sarah informed me that the treatment was now complete I sat up in a hazy but certainly relaxed state. I was glad of the time I had to daydream in the relaxation room while gazing out at the trees and gardens beyond and sipping a pleasant fruit smoothie before I delved out into the world again. Sarah recommended that I would use ESPA Soothing bath and body oils to continue my spa experience at home. I must say that evening I went to bed extremely early and enjoyed one of the deepest sleeps I have had in a while to awake in the morning refreshed but yet still pleasantly relaxed. I have continued to use the soothing bath and body oils and I am certainly becoming hooked. I don't think I will do much this weekend but enjoy this feeling of relaxation and sleep.......

In order to give everyone the opportunity to enjoy this truly relaxing treatment guests will be offered the 80 min Balinese Massage with hot stones for the price of the 50 min massage. This offer will be available until Friday 27th September only so hurry up and try this wonderful treatment today.
