Soul Soothing Serenity

May 14, 2013

The recent sunshine cast over Castlemartyr Resort presented the perfect opportunity to take the resorts resident Irish Setters, Earl and Countess, for a walk around the magnificent grounds of the estate.
There was nothing but a breath of air as we strolled along the paddocks. Our re-acquaintance with the sun was nothing short of uplifting.

The dogs joyfully bounced and explored with their home, the splendid 17th Century Manor House, providing the most picturesque back drop you could wish for on such a celestial day.

We meandered through the wooded parkland and came across the resort stables. Earl and Countess buzzed with excitement at the panoply of new scents on offer. It is here that the resorts horses are tacked up and turned out in preparation for the Horse Drawn Carriage Tours provided by the hotel and operated by an actual ancestor of the original family of the estate.
It took a moment or two before I realised how enriched this whole experience had made me feel. Earlier stresses of work time lines and bills that seem endlessly embedded in my psyche were falling to a distant memory, unimportant. I was enthralled by the sense of serenity and peace.

The eye of a horse is a most beautiful thing. Uncorrupted by belief it glares at your soul. As a holder of the key to its faith you are entrusted with a servant. A lethal concoction of strength and fear concealed with trust, revealed in reaction. Misunderstanding perhaps? Your every move is to be considered, your thoughts deliver a signal most subtle though reaction is imminent. They soon know more about you than you, who you really are. The debts of your compassion and patience, the gentleness of your touch and the thoughtfulness of your movements. The path from which you emerged is irrelevant, you are now being judged by nature’s most noble creature. No argument will suffice. The eye of a horse is the largest of all mammals, a hint from God? Your reflection is clear.

Rediscover yourself at the Castlemartyr Resort, take time out to unwind. Enjoy the simple pleasure of a pint at Pat Shortt’s pub, a short stroll from the hotel. A cycle around the lush grounds perhaps, even cycle in tandem with one of the resorts own bicycle. Maybe a peaceful horse-drawn carriage tour? There is something for everybody at the Castlemartyr Resort. Open your mind to the many wonders of East County Cork and join the countless others who have found their home from home here.

Embrace life, embrace Castlemartyr, and let her warm embrace reenergise, revive and renew you.
