Andrew Phelan, General Manager of Castlemartyr Resort, brings 15 years’ experience managing several of Northern Europe’s most distinctive luxury properties to this exceptional estate in Co. Cork. Under his steady hand, the Resort meets the highest of standards, artfully blending contemporary elegance, bespoke tradition and dedication to personal service.
A veteran of successful resort property launches and long-term management, Mr. Phelan began his career in 1989 at Mount Juliet in Co. Kilkenny. Beginning in 1995 he served in several capacities at The Old Course Hotel Golf Resort & Spa at St Andrews, Scotland, becoming general manager in 1999. In that role he oversaw the addition of a new all-suite wing and advanced the Resort’s AA ranking to just below Red Star status. Reflecting his commitment to enduring relationships and a drive to achieve ever higher standards, he then returned to Mount Juliet to oversee a two-phase refurbishment and enhance the property’s ratings and performance.
Mr. Phelan appropriately brings to Castlemartyr Resort – with its spectacular inland links-style par 72 golf course and clubhouse -- a specialty in nurturing first-class golf courses, clubs and golf events. He was directly involved in Mount Juliet’s hosting of the first Irish Open to be held at a “non-golf only club” and later directed the staging of the 2002 American Express World Golf Championship there. Subsequently he managed key components of the British Open Championship and the Alfred Dunhill Cup at St Andrews, in addition to planning the opening of the Duke’s Course and clubhouse and its subsequent expansion.
